| Collection of crashes from the early days of motor racing Posted: 17 Mar 2011 02:30 AM PDT This weeks blast from the past is a video showing a collection of crashes from the early days of motor racing. Nowadays racing car drivers are able to walk away from most high speed crashes but back in the olden days when motor sports was just getting started it was a completely different story.
The only thing that mattered in those days was speed and so driver safety was completely disregarded. The first helmets were made of leather and driver's overalls were made of cotton. Very few racers ever made it to retirement age and by watching the following video you can see why. Warning the following video contains some intense crashes and number of the drivers didn't survive. | Bugatti Renaissance design for a possible future Veyron Posted: 17 Mar 2011 12:21 AM PDT An independent designer by the name of John Mark Vicente has released to the world his vision of what he believes the next Bugatti Veyron should look like and he calls it the Bugatti Renaissance.
You can clearly tell from the rendered images that this redesigned supercar carries over the distinctive looks of the Veyron and features just a few cosmetic changes. Bugatti currently has no plans to create a successor to the powerful Bugatti Veyron but if they ever decide to then they should seriously consider John Mark Vicente's design project. | Top 5 Movies with great car action to watch in 2011 Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:30 AM PDT We are into the third month of 2011 and already there are a number of movies with great car action ready to race onto our screens this year. These car movies includes the sequels to Transformers and Cars as well as a remake of the classic TV series The Green Hornet.
This year we can expect to see muscle cars, classics, exotics, and Autobots arriving onto the silver screen. So here are 5 Movies with great car action that you must see in 2011. 1. Drive Angry Drive Angry is a revenge thriller starring Nicholas Cage who plays Milton, a father who rises from hell to avenge his daughters death and save his granddaughter from an evil cult. This movie is complete with muscle cars, hot chicks and villains that will hopefully keep you watching. Cage fights his way threw the movie and his chosen ride is a matte black 1969 Dodge Charger, other cars in this film includes a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS and a 1964 Buick Riviera. Watch the Drive Angry trailer below. 2. Fast Five The fifth movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise is coming to cinemas this year and features some of the original cast – Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker as Brian O'Conner as well as a few newcomers which includes Dwayne Johnson ( aka The Rock ). In the new film we'll be awed by more intense car chases through the Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro. Watch the Fast Five trailer below. 3. Cars 2 Lightning McQueen and the cast of cars are back for Disney's pixar movie sequel. This time friends Mater and McQueen travel to Japan where lightning competes in the World Grand Prix and just like the previous film things don't go according to plan and the comical duo get caught up in an adventure trying to save the world. Watch the Cars 2 trailer below. 4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon The third edition to Michael Bay's movie saga Transformers is due out this year. This time the Autobots and Decepticons learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the moon and once again the human race is dragged into a battle of the Transformers. Most of the original Transformers cars are in the movie along with a few newbies like the Ferrari 458 Italia. Watch the Transformers: Dark of the Moon trailer below 5. The Green Hornet This remake of the The Green Hornet was released earlier this month and features the gun and rocket loaded Black Beauty that also appeared in the original series. | 2012 Saab 9-3 gets a facelift for the new Griffin range Posted: 16 Mar 2011 06:48 AM PDT Saab has announced that they will be replacing the current Sport Sedan, SportCombi, Convertible, and 9-3Xa for a slightly changed 9-3 Griffin range for 2012. This facelifted model features a refreshed exterior, interior and improved engine performance.
The 2012 Saab 9-3 Griffin will be offered with a choice of Diesel engines that produce 130, 160, or 180 HP. There are also two new, more efficient petrol engines available, which deliver 163 HP and 220 HP, both come with a fuel consumption improvement of 4% and both are available with front-wheel drive and XWD, Saab's advanced all-wheel-drive system. The Exterior of the Saab 9-3 Griffin uses a few design elements from the 9-5 sedan. Some of the new features include Ice block headlamps inspired by the Aero-X concept, a new front grille, re-profiled front bumpers featuring a deep, trapezoidal air intake finished with black, ribbed bars, or a mesh insert for Aero variants and the rear of the sedan version will get a trunk-mounted spoiler. The interior also gets a fresher look the new instrument panel, gearshift molding, doors, and glove box all getting a titanium metallic-effect trim but the Aero models will feature a graphite fiber-effect instead for these trim parts. | 1928 Dodge Brothers Rat Rod racer Posted: 16 Mar 2011 04:50 AM PDT Check out this Rat Rod, it was created by Steve Darnell and is based on a classic 1928 Dodge Brothers sedan. This rat racer sure grabs peoples attention especially with that steam train style chimney exhaust that bellows out the car's diesel engine's exhaust fumes.
Steve managed to create this rat rod within just three and a half months and put in around 1000 hours of hard labor. This 3,800-pound rat rod can run the quarter mile in just 11.69 while reaching a speed of 118 mph, it could probably go faster but is limited by gearing and traction. The front axle was donated by a coal mine truck, and tractor parts can be easily recognized all over the vehicle. While most people use their hot rods for racing and shows Steve actually drives his everywhere, even on the freeway. Steve is planning on adding another gear to the transmission, and some slicker tires to bring the quarter mile down to around 10 seconds, we hope he eventually achieves his goal. | Amazing artwork with Disney Cars theme, a must see for Cars fans Posted: 16 Mar 2011 03:15 AM PDT If you liked the Disney movie Cars then you are going to love this article, a 48 year old guy from Beligium who goes by the name of Danyboz has been creating some really good artwork and most of his work has a Disney Cars theme.
I came across the above image at another Car Blog, I followed the source back to Deviantart.com where Danyboz has his gallery of artwork and was so impressed that I thought I would share some of his work with you. The first Bullit image above really got my attention, just imagine if Disney create a scene in their new Cars 2 movie with two of the most iconic cars ever, the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T and 1968 Mustang Fastback reenacting the car chase scene from the film Bullit, I think it would be awesome.
