5 Ways Auto Navigation Systems and GPS Technology Improve Lives

Chrises Cars - 5 Ways Auto Navigation Systems and GPS Technology Improve Lives

Global positioning technology is used in most of today’s GPS and auto navigation systems. The truth of the matter is that this technology while once reserved for the wealthy is now trickling into mainstream America. We are seeing this technology in cell phones in order to assist with 911 calls. We are seeing this technology in automobiles in order to track and possibly retrieve them if they are stolen. We are also seeing this technology used to help lost animals find their way back to the homes of their families. The truth of the matter is that there are many ways in which GPS technology is currently making our lives easier.

Below you will find a great number of uses for GPS and auto navigation system technology that currently exist. Even more amazing is the fact that new discoveries for these technologies are being made every day and over time there will be an even greater variety of methods to utilize this technology for the benefit of society.

1 Keep track of teens and children by using services such as uLocate Communications. This technology allows you to track members of your family by their cell phones. With the click of a button on your cell phone or simply tracking from home via the Internet you can find all members of your family that are carrying their cell phones. The benefits of this feature to your peace of mind alone are well worth the monthly subscription fee, which can be as low of $4 a month depending on which service you choose.

2 Keeping track of the elderly. This is especially useful if you have a loved one that suffers from Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia. Technologies are improving continuously and will hopefully reach a point very soon where ID bracelets much like the medic alert bracelets will allow GPS tracking that is even more reliable for the elderly. The relief of knowing that you can find your loved one even if he or she has wondered off and forgotten how to get home is something that you really can’t put a price tag on.

3 Lost pets. I mentioned this earlier but it is worth repeating. The technology exists to have your pets implanted with chips or even to have chips placed in collars that allow you to readily locate your precious pet without spending endless hours of searching and whistling. The real beauty of this is that you won’t have to spend hours comforting sad children; you can take them to the computer and let them help you track Fido.

4 Finding shortcuts along your route to work, job interviews, important meetings, conventions, and personal appointments. This is great if you are running into a time crunch or worse need an alternate route as the result of a traffic jam or road closure.

5 GPS technology allows security and safety in many cars that utilize On Star technology as well. This technology cannot only track the location of your car but also be used to call for help in emergency situations. This device is activated by the push of a button and can even be used by small children in emergency situations.

There are many great ways that GPS and auto navigation systems and technology are being used each and every day to improve our lives and provide peace of mind. The methods mentioned above are simply icing on the cake.

I would recommend the Atlantis X-350 3.5 Inch LCD In-Car Navigation System which also has the MP3 capabilities. X-350 is an exciting new product from JJC based upon our award winning GPS product line. This touch screen portable in-car navigation system offers door-to-door GPS guidance with spoken instructions. Simply start up your car, the GPS is ready to navigate! Includes street level maps for the entire USA. Visual and voice prompts guide drivers easily from origin to destination point. A variety of settings allow drivers to create optimal routes. Another great feature is the built-in MP3 player to listen to your favorite songs on the go. Just copy it to the SD card included. It is just that easy.

I pretty much use my portable GPS navigator in my car every day, like when I’m going to visit my relatives in Mississippi. I usually like to drive out there since I’m up here in Chicago, and I’d rather not take a plane. If I took a plane I couldn’t stop anywhere and look at any of the interesting things along the way ?I usually plan my course so that I can see as many things as possible on the way there, but without my portable GPS navigator I would be stranded on taking just one of the interstates south. It’s just not fun driving so long without seeing anything, and I really hate airplanes ?so I use mine and its map to make sure I am where I should be.

When I do go to my aunts or grandmother’s house down in Mississippi I have to use the darn thing an awful lot so I don’t get lost on the back roads. They live a bit out of the way, so it can be very confusing, and since I don’t visit but once or twice a year it’s hard for me to remember where I am at or which way I am going. If I didn’t have the portable GPS I probably wouldn’t be able to find it for hours on end, but thankfully I have the portable GPS navigator in my car. It also helped me when my cousin, Jake, had appendicitis over Thanksgiving when I drove down there.

He’d been complaining about pain in his stomach for a while, and we all thought he was being dramatic, until we realized something was wrong ?so instead of waiting on an ambulance trying to find the house out there in the backwoods, I threw him in the back of the car and brought Uncle Zachariah with us, he’d never seen something like the portable GPS navigator before. I punched in to go to the nearest hospital and we were there in about twenty minutes without one single wrong turn. Later on, after Jake had his appendix removed he made me drive him and Zachariah back to the house (this was much later on after they did their quick operation ?they said if it had been any later his appendix may have burst) and they both sat there quietly watching the little screen do its work on the GPS navigator. When we got back to the house I heard Jake begging to get one, and then I heard Zachariah begging his wife to allow it ?because they were impressed.

The rest of that weekend turned into me giving everyone a ride in the car just so they could see how it worked. Later on I showed them my cell phone, which also has a GPS locator in it and I can display maps of where I am on it. They were impressed, all of their cell phones did the whole instant messaging thing, but none of them had known about the portable GPS abilities that you could also get in a cellular. Well, that’s pretty much how I use mine.

Regular vehicle maintenance or preventative maintenance, if you will, can go a long way in making sure your vehicle runs at optimal condition. For example, no one truly enjoys the trips to a mechanic because our brake pads are worn down to the rotors or drums and we have to spend more time and dollars to repair the brake system. What little time it takes to make sure we do the “regular” things to our vehicle, makes the time well spent. The pay me now or pay me later clich? in this case, is never more true. The following tips will aid you in keeping your vehicle ready to take you wherever you have to go.

Enough can’t be said about regular oil changes and oil filter replacement. Personally, I have oil changes every 2,000 miles. The recommended schedule is every 3, 000 miles. Because of my prompt attention to regular oil and filter changes, I have a 1978 Buick LeSabre with 195,000 miles on it and in 2006 it still runs like a dream. It should go without saying but a lubing of the chassis or “lube job” some call it, should be performed at the same time you have the oil changed.

The air filter, when dirty, is a common problem when you notice your car has less power and is using more fuel. A simple check of the filter will give you an idea of how dirty it is. Mechanics will almost always agree that this simple step can go a long way in improving your vehicle’s performance. Air filters are instrumental in decreasing the amount of dirt, dust and other damaging contaminants going into the engine. Simply put, your vehicle runs less efficiently when the filter is clogged with dirt and grime. Filters should be replaced every 3,000 miles. Also, have the air filter changed when you have an oil change performed on the vehicle to save time or an extra trip to the mechanic.

And while we’re talking about filters, the fuel filter is probably the most overlooked or forgotten item for regular checkups. Auto experts don’t understand why this happens but it does. Remember the Buick I just mentioned? I have had the fuel pumps and fuel filters checked regularly on that vehicle. I can honestly say I get approximately two more miles to the gallon when I calculate mpg/number of gallons of fuel used after I have replaced a fuel filter. Whenever you happen to notice or think to yourself, “I sure am using more gas lately”, check the fuel filter.

Regular replacement of the brake pads is also very important. Many expert mechanics will agree that all parts to the brake system are the most important safety features on an automobile. You must be able to stop your vehicle quickly and safely. All brake pads will wear out eventually. If you start hearing squealing like sounds or the feel of the pedal upon braking is “mushy”, you need to consider that the brake pads are beginning to become worn out. The responsibility of the brake pads is to provide friction with the pad to make braking or stopping possible. Brake pads can be easily diagnosed for wear and tear with regular examinations.

operating in a dance with the distributor and ignition coils. Many things can indicate problems and spark plug wire malfunction. There may be corrosion at the wires or connectors. Resistance can increase as the wires get older. The material encasing the wires may be shredding or wearing out.

The first sign of trouble generally comes when you start noticing a missing or stuttering type action when the vehicle is operating. There’s a significant tugging like symptom that feels to you that your vehicle can’t get the energy to move. Always keep your spark plug wires clean. Always troubleshoot for wires that look worn out or are not properly applied to the spark plugs. Replacing your spark plug wires will mean efficient starting and less ignition type problems that can follow because of worn spark plug wires.

Wash Me! Well maybe this one isn’t actually vehicle “maintenance” per se, but doesn’t a clean vehicle make you feel better? Again, have you ever noticed the vehicle seems to run smoother when she’s clean? Having the engine steam cleaned on a regular maintenance plan can also go a long way in extending the life of your engine. Engine cleaning will keep the corrosion and grime from building up on your spark plug wires too. It will help when you are looking over your engine for leaks, unplugged or loose wiring and keep the corrosion off your vehicle’s battery.

While these aren’t the only “regular maintenance” tips available, you can always research your vehicle’s handbook for other ideas that can help extend its life and keep it running in optimal condition.

Benefits of Converting Water to Gas

Posted: 11 Nov 2012 06:24 AM PST

Chrises Cars - Benefits of Converting Water to Gas

Why you should convert water to gas? The most obvious reason is to save money because the price of oil in the world market is beyond our control. If gas is now a little over $4 per gallon, estimates show that this could reach $7 by the year 2010.

One way that the automotive industry is trying to shift away from this is by building hybrid vehicles. The Japanese first introduced this in the US market more than 10 years ago and it is only recently that US makers are trying to do the same thing.

But what are the other benefits of converting water to gas? Since water is clean, you don’t emit carbon monoxide into the air unlike gas or diesel fuels. You can feel proud that you are doing your share to keep the environment clean.

You get tax breaks from the government because this technology allows you to get refunds when you file your income tax.

As a car owner, you will still be able to use the warranty of your vehicle because the systems currently available do not void it in any way.

Just how much savings are we talking about? It depends on the type of vehicle you have and how often you have to be on the road. A ball park figure is 40-80% at the end of each month which translates to more than $1000 per year because you don’t have to fill up the tank every week.

The cost of installing such a system in your vehicle is very affordable. An instruction manual which you can find online will cost you less than $300 while the materials itself are under $250. Putting everything together will take you less than half a day and you don’t have to bring your vehicle to a shop.

Most of the products that allow you to convert water to gas turns ordinary water into HHO or hydroxy which happens to be more potent that gasoline. This increases the mpg or miles per gallon of your vehicle so you can go farther with just a tank of gas and a quart of tap water.

The biggest benefit is that it is safe. It will not cause any damage to your vehicle because it is merely an accessory that enhances the performance of your car’s engine.

Huge savings and environment friendly are the two benefits of converting water to gas technology. This of course is just the beginning because there are no 100% water powered cars yet in the market but you can sure that there are people already working on it so this can finally hit the streets.

Is converting water to gas something new? The answer is no because it has been around for 90 years. Auto makers never really explored it unlike the other industries which have used employed this.

Converting water to gas allows you to use water and gas to run your car. You just have to switch from one to the other similar to the hybrid cars that use gas and electricity since there is a rechargeable battery inside the vehicle.

Thousands of people have enjoyed the benefits of converting water to gas. You can do the same by buying a system and getting a return in your invest in less than 2 months.

There is more to consider in terms of expense when you are thinking about purchasing a classic corvette than the price tag. As with any other major vehicle purchase, there are several other items that must be considered when analyzing if a classic car can fit into your budget. There is more to consider in terms of expense when you are thinking about purchasing a classic corvette than the price tag. As with any other major vehicle purchase, there are several other items that must be considered when analyzing if a classic car can fit into your budget. With these collector’s items, it is important to remember that the traditional vehicle expenses can be a lot more on a collector item.

Insurance: Insurance on a classic corvette is going to be a lot more pricy than on a regular vehicle. The car will not come with devices considered safety standards in the industry today, and the price of the insurance will reflect that. Custom classic cars are also ripe targets for auto theft, as they are not compatible with anti-theft devices. This too will be reflected in the insurance costs. Auto insurers know that owners of classic cars are only going to insure their vehicles for driving during the good seasons, and seasonal insurance carries rates reflecting this reality.

Safety: As touched on above, there are many safety features that are taken for granted in the modern car that are not available in a classic corvette. No corvette comes with air bags, child seat anchors, reinforced structure, or impact-resistant siding material. Many corvettes do not even have seat belts in the back seats. It is not too likely that you are going to be shipping your babies or grandbabies around in your classic car, but driving without seatbelts and other standard safety features may prove an expensive prospect in the event of an accident.

Accessories: One of the big purchases for a corvette owner besides the car is a place to store the car during the winter and also in transportation. Big trailers suitable for your corvette do not come cheap, and are an expense to factor in when considering your budget.

Gas: Make no mistake, the corvette was designed in an age where materials were abundant and the horizon was limitless. These cars were built for power and speed, and anyone who suggested economy in the corvette era would have had his horn-rims shoved into his face by a fist at the end of a leather-clad arm. Times have changed, and the corvette is still designed for mid-century pump prices. Driving your classic around at today’s prices is going to be a very pricy prospect.

Flex Fuel Vehicles: More Choices

Chrises Cars - Flex Fuel Vehicles: More Choices

358

Production of flex fuel vehicles continues to widen, giving consumers more choices. If you want to do your part to lessen America’s dependency on foreign fuel while helping the environment, then an FFV may be right for you.

OEM parts, car parts, auto parts, flex fuel, flex fuel vehicles, FFV, GM, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, gas

Owning a flex fuel vehicle gives motorists options beyond high gas prices at the pump. Depending on the fuel’s availability and local taxes, you could save as much as one third at the pump by fueling up your car with E85, the ethanol/gasoline blend popular with flex fuel vehicles. As additional service stations add flex fuel to their available fuel options, more drivers will consider this alternate fuel source to save money and to help the environment. However, before you make the switch, your vehicle must be designed to run on E85 in the first place. Fortunately, select auto manufacturers are jumping in by offering vehicles that can operate with either E85 or straight gasoline. Let’s take a look at the current offerings available to American consumers.

Surprisingly, not many of the vehicles from Japanese automakers have flex fuel capabilities. Toyota and Honda are concentrating on hybrid technology while also exploring hydrogen power. The American automakers have taken the lead in this all important endeavor and the following vehicles from General Motors, Ford, and DaimlerChrysler all have FFV models available for consumers:

General Motors:

Chevrolet Silverado

Chevrolet Avalanche

GMC Sierra

Chevrolet Suburban

GMC Yukon

Chevrolet Tahoe

Chevrolet Impala

Chevrolet Malibu

Ford Motor Company:

Lincoln Town Car

Ford F-Series

Mercury Gran Marquis

Ford Crown Victoria

Ford Taurus

DaimlerChrysler:

Dodge Durango

Dodge Ram

Dodge Caravan

Chrysler Town & Country

Chrysler Sebring

Dodge Stratus

In addition, several foreign manufacturers also offer E85 technology including: Mercedes and Nissan on current models, while Isuzu and Mazda on past models. Just so you know, not all versions of each model listed have flex fuel capability; check with the dealer to make certain that your model is indeed flex fuel capable.

Yes, the flex fuel movement is growing and as new stations come on line and more vehicles become available, look for consumers to select flex fuel vehicles in greater numbers. Add in two big side benefits of reduced emissions and less dependency on foreign oil, and flex fuel vehicles make a heck of a lot of sense. Will you be going the flex fuel vehicle route?

Convert Water to Gas Can Be Done

Posted: 11 Nov 2012 06:24 AM PST

Chrises Cars - Convert Water to Gas Can Be Done

With soaring gas prices, one thing we have tried to do in the past is exchange our SUV’s to smaller vehicles given that it does not consume that much gas. Since this is not enough, some have decided to take the next step forward by inventing a system that can convert water to gas.

This product is called “Run Your Car On Water” and it will only cost you $297. With it, you get download to the instruction manual that will help you each step of the way. The materials you need are easy to find since these are all available at your local hardware store so you can assemble it yourself without having to bring your vehicle to the shop.

The system works by using the electricity of your car’s battery to separate water into a gas called HHO or hydroxy which is 2 part hydrogen and one part oxygen. The end result is being able to run your car with less gas consumption.

The system has been tested on gas or diesel powered cars, vans, trucks and SUV’s which also produce cleaner emissions. If you happen to have a hybrid vehicle, don’t try it yet because no tests have been done yet to prove if it works.

Do you need gallons of water to make this work? The answer is no because just about 1 quart is enough to provide over 1800 gallons of HHO which means it will be months before it is time to add water again.

The company that is offering this system claims to be the cheapest in the market. You get more mileage out of your car and if you do the math, the cost in buying it will be recovered in 1 to 2 months.

If you are not happy with the product after 2 months, you can talk with someone from their company to assist in maximizing the use of this product. If you are still not satisfied, you can get a full refund.

Converting water to gas is nothing new because other technologies have already used it. A lot of experts say that since oil is a non-renewable resource, it is only a matter of time before automobile manufacturers decide to come up with their own version that will give “Run Your Car On Water” a run for their money.

Since the cost of goods also goes up and down because of the law of supply and demand, if you want to get a good deal, you should get it now while it is affordable now rather than paying for this at two or maybe three times its value now. If you wait, this product is sometimes offered on sale at $50 off.

You don’t need to use bottled water since tap water will do. The process of conversion is safe so you don’t have to worry because it burns steadily and not in large volumes which is known to be highly flammable.

“Run Your Car On Water” is easy to install and remove. If you are worried that this will void your auto manufacturer’s warranty, don’t because it will not change anything in the vehicle since it is only an accessory which is designed to improve fuel efficiency by simply converting water to gas.

According to our recent poll, the rising cost of fuel has caused many families and individuals to restrain from driving habits that we’ve been so accustomed to. Before the fuel cost skyrocketed we wouldn’t think twice about hopping in our car for a 50 or 60-mile trip, perhaps to a zoo or other recreational area for a leisurely Sunday outing with our families.

But by the statements of those who responded to our poll, it appears that these leisurely drives are being limited or in some cases, families are simply staying home more.

In order to combat his high fuel expense, M. Cooper from Saint Louis Mo, a consultant that drives 20,000 mile plus per year recently traded in his Ford Taurus for a new Honda Civic that gets 41mpg.

Another consumer stated the fuel prices have drastically changed their life style, they’ve quit going out to dinner, going to the movies and even cancelled their vacation plans. What once cost him 42.00 to fill up his truck, now cost $110.00. We have a lot less money than we did before this all started. We’ve drastically reduced the amount of driving, only when necessary and have attempted to combine trips, we do not do any extra driving unless it is for school or work, so we stay home much more and do not have extra money NOW!

Matt Downer from Downers Grove, Illinois seems to have at lease somewhat of a positive spin on the situation. I’ve become a lot more in shape because I walk everywhere or bike, I think it’s a blessing in disguise, America is the most obese country in the world and maybe this will slim it down a bit, also a lot fewer fuel emissions if people don’t drive the earth won’t die.

What ever your thoughts and opinions are for the recent climb in prices, I think it’s clear that until the prices come down, the majority of the everyday working class people will be forced to continue to deprive themselves of even the most basic luxuries.

While we can’t control the price per gallon, we can at least follow a few basic guidelines and reduce our cost, albeit a minimum amount, but at $3.00 per gallon, even a minimum amount will help our pocketbooks.

Listed below are UsedCarWise.Com’s Top 10 tips for increasing your fuel mileage.

1. Set the tire pressure to the recommend psi as per the tire placard or label of your vehicle. (Always adjust tire pressure with cold tires)

2. Avoid excessive idling times, such as warming your car up in the mornings (It serves no purpose anyway)

3. Instead of going thru the drive thru at fast food chains, go inside to order. This will of course avoid excess idling while in line.

4. Remove any excessive weight from the trunk or bed of your truck (This doesn’t include over weight spouses either)

5. Remove luggage racks for aerodynamic reasons.

6. Make sure the steering and suspension system end is aligned properly, a mis-aligned steering system will cause excessive drag and reduce fuel mileage.

7. Use Cruise Control while driving at highway speeds.

8. Reduce your speed by 5mph, this may be the biggest saver of all, and if you think about it, 5mph will not get you to your destination much quicker. (Just be prepared for 1 finger hello’s and horn honkers)

9. Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained, especially the air filter. If your check engine light is on, have it corrected as soon as possible, it could be a defective sensor or other mechanical fault that will severely impact fuel mileage. Always use the proper grade of engine oil as well, the wrong grade can impact fuel mileage by 1% or more.

10. Avoid jackrabbit starts and aggressive driving habits.

While the above tips may not be new, they certainly bear not just repeating, but adhering to as well. And with the cost of fuel at record highs, we need all the help we can muster.

It doesn’t have to be a hard task to buy a second hand car. Knowing what you’re doing of course helps quite a bit. So read and following these following tips on inspecting a used car, for you never know when they will come in handy.

Fits you should inspect the exterior of the vehicle. Look at the condition of the paint. If you notice that it could be new paint, which can you a clue that the vehicle might have been in an accident. Which is not such a good thing, also be on the look out for any rust on the exterior of the car.

When inspecting the exterior look to see if the vehicle is leveled. If it looks like it sags to one side it could mean the frame or spring is damaged. Also check out the tires, see if their in good condition and inflated.

Then check to see if all the lights, blinkers and tail light all work and are not damaged. Finally take a look at all the other exterior parts such as the disc brakes, mirrors, glass, wheel rims etc.

The second step would be to check out the interior of the vehicle. First off, check to see if there are any unusually odors. It might be hard to remove an unpleasant odor. Make sure you can tolerate the smell of the car.

Look at the condition of the interior, look at how stained or well kept it is. Finally check to see if all the mechanical controls are working. Check the seats, windows, radio, windshield wiper and seat belt controls, you want to make sure that everything works and is in good condition.

The trunk is also something that you take a look at. It is probably the most over looked. You should see any signs of rust or water due to cracks or holes.

The last but no least is checking under the hood. Even if you don’t know very much about what’s under hood you still be able to check for signs of damage, like rust or dents. You can always have a mechanic come and inspect under the hood.

If it all seems to look good then the last thing would be to take it for a test drive. Pay attention to how it handles the road and how it sounds. Make sure you feel comfortable and safe while driving the vehicle. Don’t buy the car if you hear any unusually noises, that is never a good sign. There are many options out there you don’t need to settle for anything. You can get the good quality used car that you want.

The flex belt is also one of the few products in this market that has received FDA approval to be sold in the United States. Usually, if a product gets this approval, it means that you can buy it reluctantly because it will perform as they promise it will. It also means that this weight loss product is safe to use and that it will never hurt you in any way.
