Carbon Tank Cover Posted: 16 Mar 2011 10:00 PM PDT

Hi guys, Paul here. Nothing special today, just installed a carbon fiber tank cover on our Ducati Hypermotard from SHIFT TECH. Check it out.

The holes didn't really line up with out bigger capacity tank, but we just drilled out the tank cover a bit, and with some elbow grease, managed to put it in place.

Our Hypermotard is coming along just fine. It should be up and running in just a few short weeks. Can't wait to see this back on the road.

Automobili Lamborghini opens Europe's first Fashion Flagship Store in Berlin Posted: 16 Mar 2011 02:26 PM PDT Last saturday, Automobili Lamborghini opened Europe's first Flagship Fashion Store in Berlin – a boutique that is dedicated exclusively to the entire range of the globally successful 'Collezione Automobili Lamborghini' fashion collection. The exclusive boutique at Kurfürstendamm 63 was opened in the presence of guests from the world of politics, industry, fashion and society by Stephan Winkelmann himself, the president and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. See the Aventador LP700-4 being parked inside the store after the jump 'The fascination of the luxury Lamborghini brand now goes beyond our globally sought-after super sports cars. In this wonderful new world of the Lamborghini experience here in the heart of Berlin, lovers of the brand but also friends of exclusive Italian fashion can enjoy our brand and its values," announced Stephan Winkelmann. "We are pleased to give stylish enthusiasts of Lamborghini, who don't need to be drivers, a fashionable new Italian address in Berlin!" The new boutique's opening was enhanced by a fashion show, launching the new Spring and Summer collections. However the star of the evening was a car, but rather a special one: the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 – the first time it's been on show to the public since its acclaimed world premiere a few days ago in Geneva. Sandra Salameh, the CEO of LFS Luxury Fashion Store Berlin GmbH, added: 'We are delighted that one of the most appealing international brands chose Berlin for its first solus fashion boutique in Europe. It confirms Berlin as a fashion and lifestyle capital with a particular vitality and attraction for the whole of Europe.' The European premiere for Lamborghini's boutique makes it the third core market for the company's fashion brand alongside the USA and Asia. The boutiques are already well established in Los Angeles, Vancouver, Melbourne, Hong Kong and Beijing. Lamborghini's ArtiMarca division is responsible for the fashion and accessories range and has grown strongly since it was created four years ago. Mark Bullitt's debut with Muscle Milk Team CytoSport Posted: 16 Mar 2011 01:02 PM PDT In addition to its entry in the main event of the weekend, the Muscle Milk squad will also be taking part in its first IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama races at Sebring International Raceway with German driver Mark Bullitt in the Platinum class of the series. Bullitt, who has mostly competed in historic races in the United States and overseas, will be making his debut in the North American racing series that features two 45-minute events at Sebring. With four days of testing under his belt aboard the #6 Muscle Milk Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, Bullitt is ready to take on his new challenge and is confident heading into the first race of the season that he can come out with a good result. I have done quite a few laps at Sebring and racing on that old concrete is special. "I like the history of Sebring and everything that comes with it. But more than that I love those high-speed turns. It is a tough track for both the car and driver, but that's what makes it so special. "It has been a long off-season and now it is time to go racing again. We had a couple good test sessions and I was able to familiarize myself quite a bit with the Muscle Milk Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car so now I'm very excited for the season to begin. "Racing on the same weekend as the 12 hours of Sebring is a true highlight and a unique setting. With a total of 40 cars in the GT3 Cup Challenge field, I'm certain we will be able to put on a good show for the race fans. "I'm ready to take on this new challenge. I'm surrounded by a great group of people on the Muscle Milk team and we have a great car so I'm going to go out there and do my best. I can't wait to see that green flag drop." The Muscle Milk Team CytoSport driver along with the remainder of the 40-car field will be on track Thursday, March 17 at 5:05 p.m. ET for Race #1, with Race #2 going green at 4:20 p.m. ET on Friday, March 18. 37signals' David Heinemeier Hansson and PNR kick off IMSA season at Sebring Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:05 AM PDT Photo: © 2011 Bob Champan For 2011, Hansson moves from the Cayman Interseries over to the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge. Working with PNR, they've built a sweet looking Porsche GT3 wrapped 37signals livery. In 2010, Hansson had some impressive wins and looks forward to the 2011 season. With teams like Muscle Milk Team CytoSport, TRG, Alex Job Racing, GMG and more, it's not going to be an easy one. Sebring winter testing went well for PNR and this week has been good. David Heinemeier Hansson and his Porsche Napleton Racing (PNR) teammates will launch their inaugural season of competition in the competitive IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama this week at Sebring International Raceway where the first-year effort will begin a bid for the 2011 Platinum Cup class championship while gaining valuable racing experience in the No. 37 PNR/37signals Porsche GT3. "The primary motivation for the year is to get more experience and prepare myself for the next step into ALMS and some of the famous endurance races around the world," Hansson said. "That said, I'll be driving to win." Hansson and PNR moved off to a solid start during 2011 Winter Test at Sebring International Raceway last month where the No. 37 Porsche was among the top performers. Hansson also scored an impressive Gold Cup class victory in his GT3 Cup debut last October during Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in a one-off ride with AASCO Motorsports. He is looking forward to even better competition this weekend. "I'm really excited about the 40-car field we're going to be competing against at Sebring," Hansson said. "I love the rush of passing, so the more action, the better. This feels like a great and natural next step towards the dream of doing Le Mans 24 hours." A native of Denmark who now lives in Chicago, Hansson made his racing debut in 2007 in Formula Mazda competition. He also has extensive and winning experience in club and amateur events at Autobahn Country Club, his home track, and has been a regular competitor in the Cayman Interseries since 2009. His Road Atlanta GT3 win capped his best racing season to date in 2010, with other highlights including a Cayman enduro victory in the 34th Annual Mitty at Road Atlanta, a Cayman weekend sweep at Autobahn and several more Cayman victories. The successful season included a Cayman Interseries sprint-race victory at Sebring last October. "Sebring is one of my favorite tracks and it's a real pleasure to have that as the starting point," Hansson said. "I've been here quite a few times by now and I love all the passing opportunities this track gives you when you play it right." While the PNR team is new to IMSA GT3 Cup, the personnel running the operation have decades of successful sports car racing experience. The effort is led by PNR Team Principal Ron Barnaba, winning Team Manager and Crew Chief Tim Olsen, and accomplished Race Engineer Marc Manning. Hansson is also working with top American Porsche driver Patrick Long as his driver coach for the second consecutive year. The IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama features semi-professional and emerging drivers racing head to head in Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars. The series is broken into two classes, with the Platinum Cup class featuring newer and more powerful Porsche GT3s and the Gold Cup class for 2005½ to 2009 specification GT3s. Following test and practice sessions today and Wednesday, Thursday features IMSA GT3 Cup qualifying at 12:15 p.m. and the first of the week's two 45-minute sprints at 5:05 p.m. The second sprint race will close the IMSA GT3 Cup's opening race week at 4:20 p.m. on Friday. Collection of crashes from the early days of motor racing Posted: 17 Mar 2011 02:30 AM PDT This weeks blast from the past is a video showing a collection of crashes from the early days of motor racing. Nowadays racing car drivers are able to walk away from most high speed crashes but back in the olden days when motor sports was just getting started it was a completely different story. The only thing that mattered in those days was speed and so driver safety was completely disregarded. The first helmets were made of leather and driver's overalls were made of cotton. Very few racers ever made it to retirement age and by watching the following video you can see why. Warning the following video contains some intense crashes and number of the drivers didn't survive. Bugatti Renaissance design for a possible future Veyron Posted: 17 Mar 2011 12:21 AM PDT An independent designer by the name of John Mark Vicente has released to the world his vision of what he believes the next Bugatti Veyron should look like and he calls it the Bugatti Renaissance. You can clearly tell from the rendered images that this redesigned supercar carries over the distinctive looks of the Veyron and features just a few cosmetic changes. Bugatti currently has no plans to create a successor to the powerful Bugatti Veyron but if they ever decide to then they should seriously consider John Mark Vicente's design project. Top 5 Movies with great car action to watch in 2011 Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:30 AM PDT We are into the third month of 2011 and already there are a number of movies with great car action ready to race onto our screens this year. These car movies includes the sequels to Transformers and Cars as well as a remake of the classic TV series The Green Hornet. This year we can expect to see muscle cars, classics, exotics, and Autobots arriving onto the silver screen. So here are 5 Movies with great car action that you must see in 2011. 1. Drive Angry Drive Angry is a revenge thriller starring Nicholas Cage who plays Milton, a father who rises from hell to avenge his daughters death and save his granddaughter from an evil cult. This movie is complete with muscle cars, hot chicks and villains that will hopefully keep you watching. Cage fights his way threw the movie and his chosen ride is a matte black 1969 Dodge Charger, other cars in this film includes a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS and a 1964 Buick Riviera. Watch the Drive Angry trailer below. 2. Fast Five The fifth movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise is coming to cinemas this year and features some of the original cast – Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker as Brian O'Conner as well as a few newcomers which includes Dwayne Johnson ( aka The Rock ). In the new film we'll be awed by more intense car chases through the Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro. Watch the Fast Five trailer below. 3. Cars 2 Lightning McQueen and the cast of cars are back for Disney's pixar movie sequel. This time friends Mater and McQueen travel to Japan where lightning competes in the World Grand Prix and just like the previous film things don't go according to plan and the comical duo get caught up in an adventure trying to save the world. Watch the Cars 2 trailer below. 4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon The third edition to Michael Bay's movie saga Transformers is due out this year. This time the Autobots and Decepticons learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the moon and once again the human race is dragged into a battle of the Transformers. 2012 Saab 9-3 gets a facelift for the new Griffin range Posted: 16 Mar 2011 06:48 AM PDT Saab has announced that they will be replacing the current Sport Sedan, SportCombi, Convertible, and 9-3Xa for a slightly changed 9-3 Griffin range for 2012. This facelifted model features a refreshed exterior, interior and improved engine performance. The 2012 Saab 9-3 Griffin will be offered with a choice of Diesel engines that produce 130, 160, or 180 HP. There are also two new, more efficient petrol engines available, which deliver 163 HP and 220 HP, both come with a fuel consumption improvement of 4% and both are available with front-wheel drive and XWD, Saab's advanced all-wheel-drive system. The Exterior of the Saab 9-3 Griffin uses a few design elements from the 9-5 sedan. Some of the new features include Ice block headlamps inspired by the Aero-X concept, a new front grille, re-profiled front bumpers featuring a deep, trapezoidal air intake finished with black, ribbed bars, or a mesh insert for Aero variants and the rear of the sedan version will get a trunk-mounted spoiler. The interior also gets a fresher look the new instrument panel, gearshift molding, doors, and glove box all getting a titanium metallic-effect trim but the Aero models will feature a graphite fiber-effect instead for these trim parts. 1928 Dodge Brothers Rat Rod racer Posted: 16 Mar 2011 04:50 AM PDT Check out this Rat Rod, it was created by Steve Darnell and is based on a classic 1928 Dodge Brothers sedan. This rat racer sure grabs peoples attention especially with that steam train style chimney exhaust that bellows out the car's diesel engine's exhaust fumes. Steve managed to create this rat rod within just three and a half months and put in around 1000 hours of hard labor. This 3,800-pound rat rod can run the quarter mile in just 11.69 while reaching a speed of 118 mph, it could probably go faster but is limited by gearing and traction. The front axle was donated by a coal mine truck, and tractor parts can be easily recognized all over the vehicle. While most people use their hot rods for racing and shows Steve actually drives his everywhere, even on the freeway. Steve is planning on adding another gear to the transmission, and some slicker tires to bring the quarter mile down to around 10 seconds, we hope he eventually achieves his goal. Amazing artwork with Disney Cars theme, a must see for Cars fans Posted: 16 Mar 2011 03:15 AM PDT If you liked the Disney movie Cars then you are going to love this article, a 48 year old guy from Beligium who goes by the name of Danyboz has been creating some really good artwork and most of his work has a Disney Cars theme. I came across the above image at another Car Blog, I followed the source back to Deviantart.com where Danyboz has his gallery of artwork and was so impressed that I thought I would share some of his work with you. The first Bullit image above really got my attention, just imagine if Disney create a scene in their new Cars 2 movie with two of the most iconic cars ever, the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T and 1968 Mustang Fastback reenacting the car chase scene from the film Bullit, I think it would be awesome.
