Carbon Fiber License Plate Holder Posted: 25 Jun 2011 10:00 PM PDT |
Hello everyone, Paul here again. Today’s staff bike upgrade comes from Bayspeed Aero Kit. It is a carbon fiber license plate frame for the Ducati Hypermotard 1100.
Made of carbon fiber, the license plate frame weighs a full one ounce. Its weight is supported by the suspension, but we can’t help wondering how much weight savings would be obtained by replacing the entire heavy plastic license plate holder with a thinner, carbon fiber accessory.
Installing the Bayspeed Aero Kit carbon fiber license plate frame is as easy as removing the bolts from the license plate, then threading them through the license plate frame and the plate before reattaching it to the holder. At least, it would be that easy if the curvy molding did not interfere with the raised digits of the license plate number and state. We remedied this by placing washers between the plate and the frame–keeping mind of the increased length needed for the screws.
With the Bayspeed Aero Kit carbon fiber license plate frame installed on the Ducati Hypermotard 1100, it blends in nicely with the carbon fiber gas tank covers, the carbon fiber chain guards, and even the carbon fiber Remus Hexacone exhaust directly above it.
