The Advantage of Owning a Sedan

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:08 AM PDT

A sedan is defined as a car with four doors suitable for a family of five or less. Most sedans come standard with mag wheels that can be changed at a later stage. A sedan is manufactured in four basic sizes namely, the subcompact, the compact, midsize and large or full size. Sedans have 4 doors, 2 front doors and 2 back doors.

A sedan is a better option largely because it’s quieter and more refined. Its degree of quiet motoring makes sedans very popular for transporting families. It has an improved safety design and is better suited for highway driving. They are easy to drive and parking is also a breeze. Most sedans can carry four adults in reasonable comfort; taller families should consider a bigger car. When shopping for a car one should look for features such as antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, stability control as on every standard model and quality wheels.

Some sports sedans feature an all-wheel drive to enhance control and stability during high speed performances. There are several different kinds of automatic options while the traditional clutch with gears is still recommended for sports cars. There is a continuous variable transmission (CVT), which automatically selects from an infinite ratio to keep the engine in a sweet spot of power and or fuel economy. Sedans are light on fuel, very economical and are most likely chosen over a SUV.

If you’ll be carrying anything bulky, get a sedan with folding rear seats or a ski pass-through, at the very least. Sedans have a lot of space for bigger loads and are versatile. Luxuries such as rearview cameras, automatic climate control, heated seats, smartphone interfaces, navigation systems, keyless start systems, stylish mag wheels and Bluetooth capability can often be found in a sedan. If the car is not supplied with the type of mag wheels that you prefer then you could change it. You could opt for the latest in the Lenso Wheels range for stylish mag wheels that are designed for sedans and urban driving.

Although car prices differ, people looking for low-cost transportation will inevitably choose one with four doors and a trunk. Low-priced compact and midsize sedans are the cheapest to own as they don’t use much fuel, they don’t cost a lot to insure, their lack of complexity keeps repair bills down and there are plenty of mag wheels options to choose from. Luxury sedans may come with a limited free maintenance plan as higher-performance sedans often cost more to insure and maintain. Remember that some sedans can be very fast so drive safely and check that you have the right wheels for your car.

Hatchbacks and Small Cars – The Way to Go!

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:05 AM PDT

Wikipedia defines Hatchback as “a term designating an automobile design, containing a passenger cabin with an integrated cargo space, accessed from behind the vehicle by a single, top-hinged tailgate or large flip-up window. The vehicle commonly has two rows of seats, with the rear seat able to fold down to increase cargo space.”

A fitting definition indeed! Even though a hatchback can be either small in size or bigger comparatively, these days it represents a term more synonymous with Small Cars.

Hatchbacks are the prime constituents of the small-car or compact car segment and their popularity has soared to immeasurable heights over the past few years especially in the developing countries. A concept that had very few takers in the traditional western markets until a few years ago, hatchbacks have bounced back to give the more established segments a run for their money.

These cute looking small cars are nowadays the bread and butter segment for most manufacturers in the Asian and European markets. Most modern hatchbacks are surprisingly feature packed for their price and exquisitely styled to appeal to the targeted buyer. In countries like India, the small car market is fiercely competitive with new models being launched almost every quarter.

So what makes these small cars such an exciting proposition?

Hatchbacks are perfectly suited to city driving. Their small size means easy maneuverability even in narrow lanes and heavy traffic. Most small car buyers are city dwellers and small hatchbacks are the perfect answer to their automotive needs. Also, driving a small car in busy cities means no more parking woes.

Today automobile markets are flooded with stylish 5-door hatchbacks offering decent power and performance along with increased fuel efficiency. In this era of fuel crisis and frequent fuel price-hikes, hatchback cars present themselves as the perfect buy.

Most hatchbacks are competitively priced these days and offer more features at lesser prices. There is immense competition in this sector and manufacturers prefer aggressive pricing techniques to woo buyers.

Hatchbacks are the easiest thing to drive on the road. Even in driving schools, hatchbacks are the first stage in driving lessons. A shorter turning radius coupled with a small frame make them quite a convenient drive. Also, these cars don’t function on many heavy-duty moving parts. Over the years, this means less maintenance and repair costs. In fact, small cars are renowned the world over for their low cost of maintenance.

Small cars don’t need a powerful engine. The emission levels of a hatchback are much lower compared to other bigger cars with powerful engines. In future, all the talk will be about lowering emission levels in vehicles and Hatchbacks could lead the race in this regard.

Nowadays, buying a hatchback does not mean compromising on interior space as most 5-door small cars are decent 5-seaters with generous legroom and cargo space. The space in the hatch can be maximized by lowering the rear seats to accommodate more cargo.

Hatchbacks are practical vehicles that make a lot of sense in the modern era. Hatchbacks are now available in luxury versions as well offering buyers the compactness of a small car along with the comforts of a luxury vehicle.

All About The Hatchback

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:04 AM PDT

There are a lot of different styles of car being driven around the streets of our cities. There are four by fours, pickups, sedans, sports cars, two and four door versions and, of course, the hatchback. Here is some information on the hatchback.

You know you are looking at a hatchback if the car looks like a sedan with the boot cut off. This does mean that the average hatchback is a lot shorter and has less boot space than the average sedan, but it makes up for it in other ways.

The one way that a hatchback makes up for its lack of boot space is by having a shorter wheel base than a sedan or any other kind of car. This means that a hatchback can turn around in a much smaller space than any other kind of car, except maybe the South African taxi minibus. This means that it is a lot easier to get out of tight spots and to get out of parking bays when other cars would have been parked in.

The lack of a boot also makes the hatchback a great deal lighter than most sedans. This means that it has a tendency to use less fuel. This is because the engine has to push or pull along less weight so it does not need as much fuel to produce the power required to move the car which leads to lowered fuel consumption.

You do not need to be concerned that you will not be able to put your month’s shopping into the back of your hatchback though. There is still plenty of room for that kind of thing. The boot has only been shortened, not done away with altogether. You might have some trouble going on holiday for long periods of time though. You can easily install a tow bar on most hatchback vehicles though so you can make up for that problem with a trailer.

The hatchback’s lack of a boot also makes it great for in traffic driving. You will be able to get through smaller gaps in traffic safely which means that you should be able to get to work faster than you would if you were in a four by four and will sue less petrol to do it.

The hatchback is also a favourite with new drivers because of its small size. This is because the car is less intimidating and novice drivers feel more confident that they are aware of the size of their car and can get around without crashing into things like other cars and the poles on the testing ground.

The Popularity Of The Hatchback

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:03 AM PDT

The concept of a hatchback was born in the USA as long ago as the thirties. It is a derivative of the station wagon, or as we grandly call it today the ‘estate’.

A hatchback is a design that allows the cabin of the car to be integrated with the boot. The boot is accessed via a backdoor that lifts upward at the back of the car, allowing easy access to the cargo area. Most hatchback cars have rear seats that can be tilted forward towards the driver to allow for extra cargo space. Modern derivatives of the hatchback have rear seats that can split and tilt forward thereby creating extra cargo space, but retaining one passenger seat, or creating a space for long objects to be loaded into the boot of the car. The load area is typically shielded from any outside view by a parcel shelf that lifts with the door to provide access to the cargo area. Modern hatchback cars stem mainly from Asian and European manufacturers and today this design of car is mainly applied to small and medium-sized cars. Although the design style originates from the 30’s, the term ‘hatchback’ was only coined in the 70’s.

A hatchback may have either three doors or five, depending on the manufacturer and model and is of a so-called ‘two box’ design, meaning the engine compartment is one box and the cabin and load area forms the second box. Sedan cars follow a three box design, being the engine compartment, cabin and boot. Most hatchback designs allow for an A, B and C pillar design, but there are some designs that employ a D pillar as well.

There are many examples of the hatchback, both old and new, some of them being most famous both as a brand but also as a specific car. The British ‘hot hatch’ of the sixties and seventies was the dream of many young men. The original version had only a small engine but was factory hot-up to provide tremendous performance for such a little car, which to boot, attracted girls like bees to honey. There however was also a sedate version to suit the stiff upper lip of the British gentle folk as well. Another British manufacturer of sports cars brought out a hatchback version, which for years was the bench mark for sports cars. The original English hatchback is back today in almost the same cheeky design, but has now emerged as almost a ‘designer car’ rather than the cheeky; fun version of the 60’s. The essential accessory which came standard on the original version is today only available as an option. Yes, you guessed right, it was the twin stripe (in gold!) running the length of the famous British racing green body. Unfortunately my girlfriend loved my car with the gold stripes more than me, so we had to set off with spinning wheels in search of a new girlfriend!

Looking for the Car Insurance Estimate?

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:01 AM PDT

Car insurance estimate: How much do you need?
Every car buyer goes through a checklist before buying his or her brand new car. The most important aspect of the list is the auto insurance and the car insurance estimate. A car insurance acts as a protection for your car as a whole. Your insurance officer may offer you a varied range of auto insurances depending on the type of vehicle you own, the amount of coverage you need and the number of years you wish to have the protection for, in return of a yearly amount, known as the insurance premium.

When you incur a car accident, the cost of damages the car bears is covered by the car insurance you opt for, this, however, does not include any damage incurred above the overall auto insurance amount. The value of your auto insurance estimate is calculated by the IDV or the Insured Declared Value of your vehicle; the IDV is the maximum amount the insurance company is going to pay for the damages your car incurs. The amount of IDV roughly equals to the actual market price of the car you own or the showroom price of your car. The IDV thus is not a constant value and keeps changing periodically.Upon renewal of your car insurance after a year, the value of IDV will decrease because of the amount of depreciation charged on it after a year.

What are the damages covered by the car insurance?

The car insurance will not cover all the damages your car faces, during the life of the insurance. Coverages in the US are usually seen in a cluster of three numbers separated by a dash, for example, 20/50/30 or 100/500/100. The first two numbers are usually seen for medical coverage. For 100/500/100 the insurance company policy will pay $100,000 per person up to $500,000 combined for all people. The last number covers damages made to the property, that is any other vehicle or property you hit in an accident.

A comprehensive auto insurance plan will mainly cover the following types of damages:

  • Liability Coverage:

The coverage also commonly known as casualty insurance, mainly covers bodily injuries and property damages, that is damage to your car. The amount of insurance will, however, vary from one jurisdiction to the other. The insured is also allowed to increase the amount of the insurance coverage (before the loss), to cover any loss incurred during the accident.

If in an unfortunate circumstance, you hit a telephone pole with your car. In such a case, the liability coverage covers the expenses of the damage caused to the pole. It, however, does not cover any other expenses related to the damage being caused such as disruption of services claimed by the Telephone company.

A bodily coverage covers the insured from possible injury during the accident as well as covers him or her from any third party damage caused by accident. The coverage covers the court costs and damages the insured is being sued for.

  • Full Coverage

Full coverage covers both collision and comprehensive damages done to your vehicle. The collision coverage covers the vehicle involved in collisions, by paying out for the repair of the damage incurred or by paying out the cash value of the vehicle in case the vehicle is not repairable.

Comprehensive coverage covers the vehicle from damages not ordinarily considered as collision damages. The damages covered by this coverage are damage due to theft, vandalism or impact with animals. Additionally, a lot of insurance companies also include ‘Act of God’ damages that is any damage caused by event or events caused to factors that are beyond human control, such as cyclones, tornado, tsunami etc.

Purchasing the Best Car Insurance

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:00 AM PDT

In the past, car insurance was not a necessity, as some people went for it and some did not. However, today an auto coverage policy is one of the crucial things in your life, if you own a car. People need proper coverage, no matter how luxurious or modest their car is.

The way people buy insurance has also changed. In the past, buying a car insurance just meant to meet your neighborhood agent and ask him for it. But now, it is somewhat different, as you have got lots of other options at your disposal from where you can get your vehicle insured, with some entirely new coverage choices.

Buying car insurance: Which method to choose?

When you want insurance for your car, you might be puzzled as from where you should get it. Should you deal with an insurance agent or should you go online? You can choose among different options for getting your car insurance. This includes:

  1. Buying from captive agents
  2. Buying from independent agents
  3. Buying online

People, who prefer personal services and like to form face-to-face relationships, should certainly purchase their policy from an agent. But, since there are different agents, they need to decide which one is the best for them.

Among these, some are called ‘independent agents,’ who sell insurance for numerous companies and some are ‘captive agents,’ who sell insurance for just one firm. Let us see the different features of these agents, so that you can decide easily and quickly the right agent for yourself.

1. Buying from captive agents

You should buy your coverage from a captive agent, if you are dedicated to a specific insurance firm. Since captive agents deal with only one company, they will know all the different insurance options offered by that company. And, thus they can assist you to build the right package based on your needs. However, captive agents may take more time to respond to your questions and to know your needs as compared to independent agents who work for commission.

2. Buying from independent agents

You should buy a policy from an independent agent, if you want to check out the different insurances provided by different companies, as independent agents deal with several companies and not just one particular insurance firm. This way you can get a better rate.

And, since independent agents are not directly employed by any one firm, they would not push one specific product and will tell you the right things about all the insurances. Thus, independent agents can aid you to find inexpensive coverage for your car. However, since they work for commission, they are under more pressure to grab a deal as soon as possible.

3. Buying online

The third option is to skip insurance agents completely and to work directly with the company online. However, for this you have to do most of the work yourself. You have to conduct a thorough research on different coverage providers, what they offer, the rates of their insurance, and what all their policies covers. Then, you can talk to the company, that best fits your needs to procure the coverage itself.

Among these, some insurance companies that employ agents do not necessitate you to work with them and a few of them do not employ agents at all. Buying auto insurance online is one of the best options for you if you do not have much time and want to get inexpensive car insurance, as it saves you from paying commission to an insurance agent. If you are not sure about your car insurance needs, then buying car insurance online, without an insurance agent can cause you to buy the wrong, too little, or too much insurance.

Select your type of coverage

Besides deciding which company to go with, you must also consider which policy you want. There are three main types of policies, including traditional, usage-based, and per-mile car insurance. So, have a look at these three car insurance coverage programs before you settle for one particular car insurance.

1. Traditional auto insurance

In this type of auto insurance, the insurers determine the quotes for the policy with the help of various personal factors, such as your age, driving history, gender, credit score, etc. Generally, the more risk you have as a driver as per these factors, the more high your insurance rates will be. In this, you can opt for a minimum coverage amount as per the state law or else you can select from a long list of different types of auto insurance coverage.

2. Usage-based auto insurance

As opposed to the traditional car insurance, where insurers presume your driving skills depending on a list of different risk factors and your accident history, usage-based car insurance providers offer you car insurance by seeing you in action in real. In this type of car insurance, like Allstate’s Drivewise or Progressive’s Snapshot, you get a telematic device, which you have to plug-in your car. This device records how you drive and your driving behavior, especially your bad driving habits like accelerating or hard braking.

So, if the device records that you are a low-risk driver, then you can save your money with usage-based car insurance. However, if it records that you frequently drive late at night or you drive fast, then it would not help you save money with your car insurance. Additionally, many usage-based car insurance programs are not available in each state. Therefore, if you are devoted to one insurance company, then you may have to switch your company, in case you move to a different state.

Learn How To Buy A Car And Car Insurance Without Breaking Your Budget

Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:58 AM PDT

Do you ever wonder why different cars cost you different amounts for auto insurance premiums? Why is it that a new Corvette may cost you $1,600 dollars a month in auto insurance and an older Buick Regal may only cost you $90 per month? The new car insurance cost versus the old car insurance cost is a subject that you must review before you buy any car. Review insurance costs before you buy and you will not get caught in a financial trap.

New cars cost more to insure than old cars for three reasons. First, an auto theft of a new and exotic car costs much more than the auto theft of an older and average style car. This is because of the large value difference of the new car versus old car. For example, a new Chevy Caprice is much more costly to insure than an older Chevy Caprice. It simply costs more money to replace a new, expensive car than an older, less expensive car.

Second, the cost to repair a new car is much more than the cost to repair an old car. As such, this fact shall also increase your insurance premium cost for a new car. For example, if a new Chevy Caprice is damaged in an accident, the auto repair shop will charge you much more money for repairs than if the subject car were a ten-year old Chevy Caprice. For this reason, your insurer will charge you much more insurance premiums on a new vehicle than an older vehicle because of such repair costs.

Third, the style and type of car also shall greatly affect the cost of automobile insurance premiums that your car insurance company will charge you. Insurance companies use actuarial statistic tables which show them the past loss experience on particular styles and types of cars. They use these tables, to help calculate what premiums to charge their customers in the future. Statistical tables show these insurance companies that owners of certain styles and types of cars, such as sports cars, engage in more risky driving behavior than owners of cars that are of average type and style.

For example, insurance company statistical tables show that the insurer has experienced more losses with sports cars than with average cars. It is because the owner of a Corvette will probably drive such car faster and riskier than the owner of a Toyota Camry. With such speed and risk also comes along more losses for the insurance companies. With such risk and loss increase, the insurance company must then increase their return and charge more for auto insurance premiums.

Another example of how the type and style of vehicle may present an insurance company with more risk is the off-road style vehicles such as the Hummer line of vehicles. These vehicles are designed to perform in the off-road type environment. They are raised up off the ground more than regular automobiles for under carriage clearance. Additionally, they also have four-wheel drive capability.

With such design capabilities, the statistical tables show that the insurance company has experienced more losses with these types of cars than regular cars. This is because the owners of such vehicles will engage in off-road driving which is both risky to the vehicle and driver. In fact, some insurance companies may bar recovery for such damages, when the owner of the insured vehicle was damaged while any engaging in risky, off-road driving. Again, with more risk, the insurance company will increase return and thus auto insurance premiums. Now that you know that certain styles and types of cars cost more to insure than others, you have to be smart about what kind of vehicle you are going to buy.
