Dacia Lodgy Earns Only 3 Stars In NCAP Crash Tests Posted: 28 Nov 2012 05:37 AM PST Chrises Cars - Dacia Lodgy Earns Only 3 Stars In NCAP Crash Tests Have you ever wondered how Dacia manages to make such cheap cars? To understand that fully, you have to crash one of their cars, especially the new Lodgy van. In its latest series of crash tests EuroNCAP tested 15 cars and awarded all of them with five stars, except for Dacia Lodgy, which got 3 stars. NCAP is really not happy with Lodgy’s performance. According to the test results, in the frontal impact, the screen pillar was heavily deformed at the top of the windscreen and the roof was bent in front of the B-pillar. Rear passengers are also in danger, as the floor panel and tunnel were completely separated, extending into the driver’s footwell and the transmission tunnel was deformed between the front seats. It’s the same sotry with the rest of the vehicle. In pedestrian protection, the Lodgy's score of 44 percent is unacceptable. All of the other cars in this group scored more than 60 percent. Child safety score was 77 percent, which again is nothing to write home about, especially for a so-called family car. So, still want to save a few grands on your next car and buy cheap? Opel/Vauxhall Mokka Earns 5-Star Safety Rating Posted: 28 Nov 2012 05:37 AM PST Chrises Cars - Opel/Vauxhall Mokka Earns 5-Star Safety Rating The results of latest EuroNCAP crash tests are out, and they indicate that the new Opel/Vauxhall Mokka crossover (Buick Encore in America) is a five-star car, which mean it is as safe as cars of this class currently get. That is a big selling point for a family car like the Mokka. The Mokka showed great performance in all five safety categories tested by Euro NCAP, scoring maximum points in the safety assist category. NCAP also praised the car’s electronic stability control, its seatbelt reminder function and its speed limitation assistance, all of which contribute in one way or other to safety of the occupants. Another area where he Mokka performs good is child safety, again an important factor a family car. Thanks to its standard rear outer ISOFIX child seat mountings and fasteners for an additional top-tether belt, the Mokka scored maximum points in this category. The car’s performance in adult safety was just as impressive, scoring 96 per cent, thanks to its front, side head and side body airbags as well as double belt pre-tensioners with load limiter The post Opel/Vauxhall Mokka Earns 5-Star Safety Rating appeared first on Chrises Cars - Bringing You The Latest Motoring News And More |
Volvo V60 Hybrid Named Safest Electrified Car by NCAP Posted: 28 Nov 2012 05:37 AM PST Chrises Cars - Volvo V60 Hybrid Named Safest Electrified Car by NCAP Volvo’s astonishing new V60 plug-in hybrid achieves the highest score ever recorded by an electrified plug-in hybrid car in EuroNCAP’s latest crash tests. Being a Volvo of course, it sailed through the test snatching all five stars without breaking a sweat. But being the safest in its class is a remarkable achievement. Volvo had to devise new safety measures for this car, what with the battery pack, added weight and all the electrical bits and bobs. So the structure has been modified and reinforced to enable a controlled deformation to help provide a high safety level. The battery pack in the V60 Plug-in Hybrid is well encapsulated and located under the load floor. So Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid is just as safe as the standard V60. The V60 hybrid also wows in terms of fuel consumption. It offers three driving modes: Pure, Hybrid and Power. Fuel consumption is just 1.8 l/100 km (48 g/km CO2) in Hybrid mode, which is more than amazing. “We apply the same high standards to all our products. The Euro NCAP score demonstrates that the ingenious V60 Plug-in Hybrid features the same outstanding safety level as the standard car,” says Jan Ivarsson, Senior Manager Safety Strategy & Requirements at Volvo Car Group. 2014 Mazda3 Official Design Sketches Leaked Posted: 28 Nov 2012 05:37 AM PST Chrises Cars - 2014 Mazda3 Official Design Sketches Leaked Thanks to some leaked documents from the European Trademark Office we now have a rough idea what the next Mazda3 looks like. These official design sketches prove that those pictures of the car we’d seen before were for real. Now the car may look a bit weird in these sketches, but the in reality it is actually a thing of beauty. The new Mazda3 adapts the firm’s Kodo design language, seen on the CX-5 and the new Mazda6. It lets go of the current generation’s smiley face, but replaces the small with an enormous front grille. The headlights are another highlight of this new design philosophy. 2014 Mazda3 also gets a whole host of SKYACTIV technology features, including a range of fuel efficient engines, sophisticated chassis and suspension, and a high-tech body shell. That is all very good, but what we want to know is if the next generation retains that peppy handling of the current Mazda3. The new Mazda3 won’t debut until late 2013. Smart Fortwo Forjeremy Unveiled In Los Angeles Posted: 28 Nov 2012 05:37 AM PST Chrises Cars - Smart Fortwo Forjeremy Unveiled In Los Angeles Over the years there have been many weird and strange Smart Fortwo models, but this new one tops them all. With the Smart Fortwo For Jeremy – designed by fashion guru Jeremy Scott – they seem to have taken complete leave of their senses. They are going to launch this as a a limited special edition model in 2013. It is daring, of course, in the same way that dressing in leather and dancing in public is daring for a supposedly straight man. There is no getting away from the fact that this car is the final nail in Smart Fortwo’s tiny gay coffin. The main highlight of this car are obviously those huge wings, which are apparently Jeremy Scott’s signature dish, used on his sneakers, sunglasses, etc. It also features a chrome-plated tridion cell and rims deigned to look like aeroplane propellers. For the interior they’ve used white nappa leather for the instrument panel, seats and door trim, plus more shiny chrome. The Forjeremy Smart is based on the Fortwo electric drive model, powered by a 55 kW electric motor. It does 0 to 100 km/h in an agonizing 11.5 seconds, and has a range of approximately 145 kilometres in city.

Posted: 28 Nov 2012 05:37 AM PST Chrises Cars - Fiat 500e Not For Europe Usually it’s America that has to wait years for a new European model to reach it – or they just never get it. But this time it’s the other way around. The new Fiat 500e, the electric version of the Cinquecento, will only be available in the American market. The car will first launch in California, and gradually reaches other states. Part of the reason they are not offering the 500e in Europe is complicated financial issues. It will be made by Chrysler in Mexico. Shipping the cars all the way to Europe from there does not sound very efficient, especially as Sergio Marchionne, the boss of all things Fiat/Chrysler, says they’ll initially lose up to t0 ten grand on each 500e sold. Fiat 500e is also a very average electric car, with a motor that barely develops 100 hp and 200 Nm of torque, and takes 8 hours to be charged. Fiat does not feel confident enough to bring it down to Europe and put it up against something like Nissan LEAF. It is, however, one of the coolest EVs to be launched next year. Compared to the standard 500 it has a modified front fascia and distinctive aero parts such as front and rear spoiler, flat underbody and lowered ride height, to reduce the drag coefficient as much as possible. Pricing and final specs of the Fiat 500e for the American market are ye to be confirmed. 2013 Porsche Cayman First Picture Posted: 28 Nov 2012 05:37 AM PST Chrises Cars - 2013 Porsche Cayman First Picture The new Porsche Cayman will be unveiled officially at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto show in a matter of hours now, but hey, early looks are always more fun. So check out this leaked picture of the new German sports car, showing it in full glory. As expected, the 981 Cayman is pretty much identical to the Boxster 981. However, it seems to have a different front bumper and, by imagine, a revised rear bumper. It’s not that big of a change over the Boxster, but at least they tried. It might not be a looker, but Porsche Cayman is a damn good driver’s car. You get the same chassis and powertrain as the Boxster, which as we know are brilliant, with a rigid hardtop body. It is a joy to drive. It never made sense to us though. If you are buying a sports car to have fun with, why not get a proper open-top one? What’s wrong with the Boxster? Official details are expected to be released soon. Stay tuned. via: CarScoop The post 2013 Porsche Cayman First Picture appeared first on Chrises Cars - Bringing You The Latest Motoring News And More |
