Snowplow Comparo Charts: Best We’ve Seen Posted: 26 Nov 2012 04:49 AM PST Chrises Cars - Snowplow Comparo Charts: Best We’ve Seen With snowplow season just around the corner, we thought we'd pass along some of the best snowplow comparison charts we've seen to date. The folks at Snowdogg Snowplows in Mentor, Ohio, have collected just about every spec and piece of data you can gather on their own snowplows and the other big players like Meyer, Boss, Fisher and Western. Whether you have a small SUV or medium-duty work truck, you can compare the exact plow size and configuration you'll need to get the job done. Naturally, the people at Snowdogg would like to sell you a plow, but there's no reason you can't use the internet or your own local plow dealer to shop for the best deals. The key here is to make sure you don't have the wrong snowplow mated to your truck. Do your research. Make sure your truck's front end is equipped with the proper heavy-duty plow, spring, and/or cooling packages to minimize any potential safety issues. Every setup needs to be within the proper specs to keep your truck and plow parts safe. Although we believe in having a touch more capability than you probably need, make sure to get the opinion of a certified snowplow expert when you're shopping around. For more tips on how to plow for fun or profit, each of the big snowplow manufacturers has its own tips and advice section online, and in some cases a pamphlet you can get by mail. We'd also suggest doing a little research on snow tires, winter driving and tire chains. Calendar Star to Barn Find: 1958 Porsche 356A Cabrio Posted: 26 Nov 2012 04:17 AM PST Chrises Cars - Calendar Star to Barn Find: 1958 Porsche 356A Cabrio This 1958 Porsche 356A cabriolet was recently pulled from a barn by the current seller, where it was parked by the third owner who bought it in 1978. The photos seem to solidify that story, and this is the first time we have seen a seller collect and publish 100+ paint thickness results from all over the car to substantiate a no bondo statement. We love that move. Also interesting is the early history of the car which had the first owner submit a photo of the car next to a Cherokee indian chief to the Porsche factory magazine, whose editors used it in the annual Christophorus calendar in 1959. Find it here on eBay in Greensboro, North Carolina. Special thanks to BaT reader Jim O. for this submission!
We can’t find any digitized images from the 1958 or 1959 Christo calendars, but the photo above looks exactly like much of the great images that graced the pages of the early factory magazine. Does anyone out there have a paper version to verify? The barn from which the car was extracted is shown below. The full gallery of the seller’s photos can be found here on Photobucket. The seller did a great job of cleaning up the car. There are still plenty of paint and metal issues, but the factory hardtop and very complete US-spec over-rider bumpers are very valuable. The seller also sourced the factory Kardex build document which is shown in the gallery. Those are no longer available from Porsche so he must have had some connection, or it might have been sourced many years ago. The interior is mostly complete but the floors are said to need full replacement. A mouse trap remained inside the car, but it is not mentioned if there was rodent damage. Given that this car will likely be headed for a complete restoration, it doesn’t much matter if the wiring harness was chewed. This is a great car and the seller has gone to great lengths to extract, clean, document, and explain it. This man earned his money, and given the current bidding, we suspect that he well do okay with this one. The only shortcoming in the listing is that calendar verification. We’d love to see it surface in the comments below. The post Calendar Star to Barn Find: 1958 Porsche 356A Cabrio appeared first on Chrises Cars - Bringing You The Latest Motoring News And More |
Odd Auction: Neglected 1970 Porsche 914-6 Posted: 26 Nov 2012 04:17 AM PST Chrises Cars - Odd Auction: Neglected 1970 Porsche 914-6 This 1970 Porsche 914-6 is being offered in non-running condition via an auction site that liquidates salvage and repossessed vehicles, but also carries some consignments. The car is said to carry a clear title, and the VIN is shown on the door jamb decal as 9140430924, which is correct for a factory 6-cylinder according to the p914.com reference site. Find it here at Cranky Ape Auctions in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, where bidding is currently at $8600 and the auction closes in three days. Special thanks to BaT reader Joe in NH for this submission!
Not many detail photos are included, but the chassis number decal might verify that this was the original color of the car. There is no obvious masking, but closer inspection would be needed to be sure. The 5-lug Fuchs are all in place but the listing states that they are scraped, and the tires show evidence if sitting flat. The lower front spoiler also has an unusually large center vent which might be aftermarket. The auction company description is clearly from a brief look over the car. They claim the driver seat is aftermarket, though it looks factory to us. The odometer shows 34k miles, which we’d guess to be 134k in the absence of any documentation. The lone engine bay photo shows the 6-cylinder Porsche engine in place, and the sellers claim it to be a 2.0L unit, but no engine number is provided. Knowing that number would be a huge win for all parties involved. They do not that the engine has no air filters or spark plugs, so the internal components might have been subjected to outside influences. We love 914-6s, and this early example with a striking color combo would be a great one to put back on the road. We’d love to know more of the story, and maybe a look at that clear title would tell of where the car came from. Not Understated: 1959 Fiat Abarth 750 Zagato Posted: 26 Nov 2012 04:17 AM PST Chrises Cars - Not Understated: 1959 Fiat Abarth 750 Zagato This 1959 Fiat Abarth 750 Zagato coupe is built for track duty and is said to have an extensive VSCCA history. Between the unusual “Double Bubble” design and the bright yellow color, this one is sure to stand out in any crowd. The car proudly proclaims its 817cc displacement on the front fenders, too. Find it here on eBay in Bethel, Connecticut.
The seller provides a very limited description, instead opting to let the pictures and a short video do the talking. There are hints of red in the headlights and engine compartment that suggest it once wore the more common double bubble color. The current yellow is said to be a race car paint job that looks good from a distance. The interior looks to be in good shape for its age and mostly original with some track add-ons. The fire extinguisher and roll bar mean this car was intended to be used rather than sit as a showpiece. It was built for racing, and the distinctive roof allows extra headroom for helmets. Despite the Connecticut location, the body is claimed to be rust free with no accident damage. It runs well but is said to need some brake work. At least this one appears to be complete, so hunting down parts should not be an issue here. These are usually offered as unfinished projects or perfectly restored trophy pieces, so it is nice to see a real running and driving example. These Zagato and Abarth joint ventures always demand a premium, and this one in nice driver quality condition should see some healthy bidding activity. California-Legal 1983 Nissan Skyline DR30 Turbo Posted: 26 Nov 2012 04:17 AM PST Chrises Cars - California-Legal 1983 Nissan Skyline DR30 Turbo This 1983 Nissan Skyline is claimed by the seller to be the only California-legal DR30 in existence. A previous owner also posted in the thread that the car has a BAR tag, and we like that the exhaust tips have remained sub-coffee-can sized. That rear wiper is also a cool detail on this non-USA model. Find it posted just today here on Zilvia.net in Fremont, California for $14k. Special thanks to BaT reader Vadim A. for this submission!

Mazda 6, create your model with your iPhone or Android Posted: 26 Nov 2012 04:02 AM PST Chrises Cars - Mazda 6, create your model with your iPhone or Android A couple of days ago we told you about the new application to discover the new Jaguar F-Type. Now it is the turn of Mazda. The Japanese, in fact, created an App (available for Apple and Android) to discover the new Mazda 6, in both the sedan and wagon on your phone or tablet. Not only that but you can also configure your car to suit your needs.
In particular, this application allows customers to select the choice of exterior colors, aluminum wheel and the type of upholstery available. Thanks to the camera you can also create a snapshot of the car with the chosen configuration, save it and send it to your friends or use the specific section of the App to get all the information related to the safety and infotainment functions. The application is designed for a variety of Apple and Android devices and also provides a high resolution external and an internal view that allows a rotation of 360 degrees, almost like in a showroom of the Japanese. The App can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store and Google Play shop for Android.
